New stamps to commemorate Martyrs' Day

LR updates | 19-09-2013

Libya's postal service has issued two new stamps to coincide with Martyrs' Day, observed on 16 September.

The date marks the anniversary of the 1931 execution of Omar al-Mukhtar, who led Libyan resistance against the Italian presence in the country.

The 750 and 1,000 dirham stamps also commemorate the casualties of the 2011 conflict.
